Camilla Salghetti and Lake Iseo: Freediving, Safety and Conservation

Lake Iseo is one of the places most closely connected to Camilla Salghetti’s work. Living in Sulzano, she combines direct experience in the water with public communication about safety, conservation and the cultural value of the lake.
A lake seen from below the surface
Freediving changes the way a landscape is understood. The shoreline is only one part of the environment; visibility, depth, underwater habitats, human activity and waste are equally important. Camilla uses underwater images and first-hand experience to make these less visible aspects easier to understand.
Safety and clearly understood swimming areas
One recurring theme in her public communication is water safety. Lakes can look calm while presenting rapidly changing depth, boat traffic and local conditions. Clear information, respect for designated areas and realistic assessment of personal ability are central to responsible use of the lake.
Conservation through communication
Camilla’s environmental work connects Lake Iseo with broader marine-conservation themes: pollution, lost fishing gear, habitat protection and the need to help people feel emotionally connected to underwater environments.
Culture below the waterline
As an art historian, she is also interested in projects that bring together public art, environmental education and underwater landscapes, treating water not only as a recreational space but as part of a territory’s cultural identity.
