Camilla Salghetti — Freediving Instructor in Italy
Camilla Salghetti is an AIDA freediving instructor based in Italy. Her teaching and public communication focus on calm, technique, safety, equalisation and a respectful relationship with the underwater environment.
From competitive swimming to freediving
Camilla spent fifteen years in competitive swimming before moving deeper into freediving and underwater work. That background provides a strong understanding of body position, efficiency, water confidence and training structure, while freediving adds a different dimension: breath, relaxation, equalisation and mental control.
A non-competitive approach to depth
Although she has substantial experience in freediving, Camilla does not present the discipline primarily through records or competition. Her emphasis is on the quality of the experience, progression within safe limits and the sense of quiet that freediving can create.
This approach is also reflected in her educational content, which covers topics such as Frenzel equalisation, safety procedures, rescue, CO₂ and O₂ awareness, lanyards and open-water discipline.
Freediving and scuba together
Camilla also scuba dives. The two disciplines are different but complementary: freediving develops breath-hold awareness and movement efficiency, while scuba allows longer observation of underwater environments. Her media work uses both depending on the subject, location and conservation story being documented.
Teaching and underwater storytelling
As an instructor and creator, Camilla communicates to both students and a broader public. Her goal is to make freediving accessible without trivialising safety. Training content is paired with real-world underwater storytelling in lakes, seas and international destinations.
